GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT NAPLES AND CAMPANIA REGION
Description:
Campania is a region of southern Italy, located by the Tyrrhenian Sea. The regions that Campania borders with are: Lazio, Molise, Puglia and Basilicata. The territory is hilly but there are also volcanic plains and mountainous areas.
Along the coast can be found the Partenopee islands: Capri, Ischia, Procida and Nisida.
The capital is Naples (regional capital) and the other provinces are Avellino, Benevento, Caserta and Salerno.Campania includes four gulf bays: Gaeta Gulf, Naples Gulf characterized by the presence of Vesuvius, Salerno Gulf to the south on the beautiful Amalfi coast and Policastro Gulf.Besides the natural beauty, the region provides countless evidences of its ancient history like the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Cuisine and Wines: Region Campania’ s cuisine made Italy known worldwide thanks to the pizza that reflects the taste and simplicity of an entire country.
The Neapolitans, ingenious people, invented it while they were looking for a simple dish but at the same time nutritious. Originally, the pizza was white, just pasta and mozzarella; the tomato was introduced after it was imported from America.typical dishes are "rraù" or the “guardiaporta sauce”, a dish made with lard, ham fat and thin slices of veal stuffed with cheese, garlic, pine nuts, raisins and parsley; “squids alla napoletana” enriched with pine nuts and black olives and among the desserts the cake “pastiera napolitana” made with ricotta cheese, orange and Babà.
Campania is also the home of pasta that is often served simply with tomato, oregano and mozzarella, among which the ”buffalo mozarella”, produced in Capua and Battipaglia is the best known.
Among the region's typical grape varieties we find Trebbiano, Sangiovese, Malvasia, Greco and Aglianico, while among the wines that are produced here, the most famous and appreciated are Procida and Vesuvio as red wines and Lacrima Christi, Ischia and Capri among the whites. Delicious and very famous is also limoncello of Sorrento.

Description Naples: Naples, capital of the province and the region, is the third most populous city of Italy and is an important commercial and shopping center and boasts the largest port in Italy.

Naples’ Cuisine and Wine: Macaroni and pizza, both enhanced by a variety of condiments are a symbol of neapolitan and national cuisine. The pasta sauces are mainly based on tomatoes and fish. Among other specialties we find: "pasta ammiscata", poor soup obtained from leftovers of different types of pasta, peppered mussels and fried calamari, spicy polyps and eggplant parmigiana – ”melanzane alla parmigiana”.The variety of sweets made also Naples famous in the world, just think of babà, “pastiera” and “sfogliatelle”. The best-known wine is ”Lacrima Christi” but ”limoncello” liqueur and “rosolio”, some liquors that together with the traditional Neapolitan coffee, accompany the desserts.
